It is prior for all the passenger to switch off their Mobile Phones. even the passenger President. this rules gas it's own regulation that has been made by the government ans there is also an explanation why this rules has to be made and obey by all the Passengers on Plane.
Even on stand by position without switch on the signal, Mobile Phone still broadcasting periodic signal rapidly even in certain high. beside that Mobile Phone still have a network connection with their closest BTS.
So, even Mobile Phone in Offline mode, it's still make a network connection with certain distance, and it is can disturb communication and navigation system on Plane.
It is happen because Mobile Phone design to send and receive signal. on FM radio for example, Oscillator Frequency that radio has also could disturb VHF signal Navigation that Plane Has.
The farther our Mobile Phone distance with BTS in Land, the stronger signal emitted by Mobile Phone to maximum, and make a greater disturb impact. this thing could make communication between pilot and control tower disturb which can make Pilot error on reading Instrumen panel and disaster happen.
Especially on landing and take off, this is a critical fase where many accindent happen on this fase, that is why it is normal when crew in cabin asking all the passenger tu torn off all electronic devices during the passengers on a Plane.
